New Officers Chosen For SGA at Missouri State-West Plains Campuses

New Student Government Association (SGA) officers for the 2016-2017 academic year were elected recently by students at Missouri State University-West Plains’ campuses in West Plains and Mountain Grove, and the new officers took their oaths of office during the annual Celebration of Leaders student awards ceremony April 21 at the West Plains Civic Center. From left are 2016-17 Mountain Grove SGA Vice President Morgan Barnhill and President Kennedy Wilkerson, both of Mountain Grove; 2016-17 West Plains SGA Vice President Sage Roush, West Plains, and President Sydney McBride, Lebanon; and 2015-16 West Plains SGA President Casey Buehler, West Plains, who administered the oaths.

    ‘Students First’ Visit Current River State Park

    Summersville students who qualified for the third quarter Students First Organization trip at Summersville High School traveled to Current River State Park Monday, May 9. Approximately 60 students were treated to a cookout prepared by principal Jon Johnson, Roger Gastineau, Amanda Newby, and Amber Hunt. The group also toured the site of the former Alton Box Company and ended the day with ice cream at Bland's Dairy Shack.

    Wallace Receives Scholarship From Mountain View Chamber of Commerce

    Mountain View Chamber of Commerce member Cindy Bradford congratulated Liberty High School graduate Samantha Wallace, who was recently chosen as the 2016 chamber scholarship recipient. The $500 scholarship will be applied towards Wallace's tuition and other expenses at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she plans to pursue a double major in anthropology and plant sciences.

    Jay Hale Named 2016 West Plains Schools Educator of the Year

    The West Plains School District recognized, Jay Hale, an exceptionally skilled and passionate educator, as the 2016 Educator of the Year. The West Plains High School/South Central Career Center Agriculture Science instructor has taught in the West Plains School District for 13 years.

    Crider Receives MFA Foundation Scholarship

    Maggie M. Crider, a graduating senior at Eminence R-I High School, has won a $2,000 MFA Foundation scholarship. The scholarship was awarded at the school’s Graduation Ceremonies.

    Maggie Crider is the daughter of Lisa Crider and Samuel W. Crider. Maggie plans to attend Evangel Unversity, Springfield, MO.

    The scholarship was sponsored by: MFA Propane, Eminence.

    Larry R. Burton II Graduates From UMKC School Of Law

    Larry R. Burton II graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law on May 14, 2016, obtaining a Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree. Mr. Burton was honored for his pro bono/public service work. As a longtime resident of Mountain View, Mr. Burton recognizes the need of his community to have affordable and accessible legal representation close to home. For that reason, Mr. Burton plans to open his own law office in Mountain View, MO in the near future.

    Summersville Kindergarten Graduates

    Summersville Kindergarten class (Class of 2028) graduated on Wednesday, May 11. Following the processional, “Let them be Little” by Billy Dean, students recited the pledge of allegiance.
